First let's get bad stuff out of the way. I'm using animation branch, ver. 2.9.9 beta (git 53acc68). If there's newer version of animation branch, I'm not aware of it. The bug I've encountered is that Onion Skin settings are only partially saved. Opacities and tint is saved, but which frames are enabled/disabled for skinning aren't saved (-10 -9..0..1 2, and so on). For my purposes I only need simple onion skinning (previous and next frame) so more than that is just confusing for me and clutters the canvas.
Now, for the feature request, I'd like to be able to set onion skin to be visible ABOVE actual frame, which is very usable when e.g. you need to animate large blocks, such as shading. Current mode is fine when you're preparing animation and doing lineart, but when you get to actual coloring and shading, animating shading is kinda hard to do without it looking weird without onion skin being drawn above everything else. |

Newer versions are the 3.0 pre-alpha as stated clearly in the news-posts, issue might be very likely fixed in there.
cannot say anything about the compositioning. |

Hi,
For the onionskins frame visibility/levels, those are saved across sessions now in current development version. As for the request to display onionskins above the canvas insead of under it, that's an interesting feature request. I guess we can add an option in the onionskin settings to switch between those two modes. |
