Feature request: Vector Bush Strokes

Fri Feb 19, 2016 12:55 am
Note: I am aware this was discussed in a support topic. I wanted to make a more comprehensive thread for discussion as a feature request.

I would like to request then vectors be rendered with a brush stroke, so that the appearance of the stroked vector can be known and fine-tuned before it's optionally locked down to to a raster layer.

This feature already exists in many competing products - Illustrator, Clip Studio, Sai

Considerations:
Do vector nodes currently store pressure information? (Especially freehand vectors) This would be useful for stroking as many brushes respond to pressure.
The direction of the curve must be fed back to the brush algorithm as many brushes are sensitive to paint direction.
File sizes would potentially be smaller for a layer that holds the vector + brush information as opposed to rendered raster information.
Animation would be much better served by moving vectors between frames - Tweening could be automated.
Vector fill would be sensitive as the fill edges might not fit nicely with a stroked brush. Perhaps a warning when activating one option when the other is on.
Option would exist to render vector layer to raster, but the vector could be kept also for the final product.
Much easier and cleaner to move an existing line (Vector) than to erase part of a line and try to match the brush stroke for a correction (Raster)

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

It would be awesome if someone would comment here, even if only to highlight some of the challenges associated with implementing it, or indeed even to help me clarify my request.

The maintainer is on a holiday(returning tomorrow), and the code we use right now is undermaintained and we are dedicating next kickstarter to get all vector code maintained. The main obstacle to these features is time and money.

It will also be a krita sprint main topic because we have no requirements hatched out yet and it requires face-to-face contact with artists.
