[Suggestion] Animation Features

Mon Dec 12, 2016 6:48 pm
Not sure if others have mentioned these yet...

- Display keyframe drawings as thumbnails in Timeline (similar to TVPaint)

- Easily change timing of keyframes by selecting a frame (or multiple frames) then pressing a number.
For example, select all of the keyframes then press the "2" key to have the animation timed on 2's. Or press the "4" key if you know you want to hold a keyframe for 4 frames.

Also, this is my first post so sorry if this is not the right place.

Cool ideas.. i wanna post something too.
-The ability to set the framerate when i use a gif format.
-Maybe that krita detects all the frames and select the end of the animation based o the last frame made.(Like TVpaint)

Nice ideas. Another and I think a very easy one to implement.

-- The ability to create a totaly blank New Frame just by drawing on the position, instead of the need to press DELETE everytime. A checkbox for this maybe (?).

Hi,

realy cool Idea !
For me the priority is :

1-COPY AND PASTE FRAMES : Find easy way to copy frame or group of frames and paste it in the same layer at a different time , for now, a new layer is created when you paste or you can just duplicate the frame before. Maybe can we have the choice ?

2- ANIMATION RESIZE : Maybe can we have a tchek box in resize tool to choose resize entire animation on a layer, for now you can just resize frame by frame

3- CYCLE OPTIONS (like TVpaint): None: If you don’t want the cycle to repeat.
Continuous: If you want the cycle to restart with the first drawing on each loop.
For example, if you create two continuous drawing loops for drawings-2-3, the resulting loop would be: 1-2-3-1-2-3.
Forward-Backward: If you want to restart the loop with the previous drawing.
For example, if you create 2 forward-backward loops with drawings 1-2-3, the resulting loop would be: 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-

Hi,

I also have tried to use Krita for animation but gave up for a very specific reason but first let me add to what has been already said on the thread.

1- Agreed althought it is almost already possible if you selected and drag'drop you can copy/paste on the same layer or even to another layer. The only thing that doesnt exist is the short cut.
2 -I would simply add a re apply function for exemple if you want to erase the same area on multiple frames you can simple press a short cut and it does the same action again on the frame selection.
3 -I think this could be useful but quite honestly it is a bit trivial. If a shortcut is available it is very easy to simply copy paste your cycle the length of your shot.
4- It is useful but not fundamental.

The most fundamental reason I stopped using Krita for animation was the simple lack of shortcut to copy/paste/cut/add blank frame/remove frame. The reason for these is absolutely necessary since animation is time consumming process and many tasks need to be repeated.

The 2nd reason is the layer management. (guess this is similar to what was mentionned in point 1) When I adding layer it would be much easier to simply add the layer in the timeline aswell not sure if this is intentional or if this is a bug but I really makes it complicated to animated on different layer.

The final reason is the selection tools problems which have already been mentionned in other places in the forum.

I hope this helps I think Krita is very close to be perfectly usable for any animation.

Hello,
I am an animator and animation teacher and started to love Krita since it has the animation features. I am also a long user of TVPaint, Moho (Anime Studio), Flash and other Animation Apps. Krita is great, specially for little schools and animation beginners who are not able to spend too much money in animation software. So I will not compare Krita with the big animation softwares but I think it could be good to give some ideas for a better animation workflow.

As mentioned before some timeline improvements would be great:
- easy copy and paste possibilities
- easy way to clear (delete) the content of multiple frames (this would be a big help, when copying a timed animation layer to reuse the timing but giving new contents - good for cleanup and coloring for example)
- the auto-frame option should produce new empty frames instead of copys of the previous frame

Looking much further into the future:
- being able to scale the timeline and having thumbnails of the drawing of the frames would be nice.
- being able to give numbers (or better names) to the frames would also be great.
... ;D

Hope I can help Krita in the future. It's a very nice drawing app.
