Problems with Krita Snap

Tue Sep 05, 2017 7:31 am
The Krita snap package has a major flaw — it has no access to fonts in /usr/share/fonts or ~/.local/share/fonts. It only has access to the fonts bundled in the snap.*

Access to /usr/share/fonts seems to be a bug in the snap system, but I’ve seen suggestions that other snaps (LibreOffice, Inkscape) can access fonts in ~/.fonts (supposed to be deprecated for ~/.local/share/fonts?).

This certainly doesn’t work with Krita and neither do other suggestions of linking a font folder into ~/.snap/krita/current or ~/.snap/krita/common. Is there any solution to this? Can the snap be configured to allow access to user fonts at least?

I’d just like to have a current version of the program that gets updated, which snap delivers (more or less). The Krita Lime PPA doesn’t have packages for Ubuntu 16.04 and, while the Appimage seems to work fine, I would have to create some hacky scripts to keep it up-to-date.

* DejaVu Sans, DejaVu Sans Mono, DejaVu Serif, Monospace, Sans Serif, Serif, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Condensed and Ubuntu Mono are what I get.

Well, I don't have much time to fiddle with the snapcraft file. If you can figure out how to hack it to give access to fonts, I'll be happy to use the updated definition, though. You can find the snapcraft definition here: https://phabricator.kde.org/source/krit ... inux/snap/
