It would be really nice to be able to edit the text in place on the layer instead of having to open an editor dialog.

Yes, that would be nice. But it's not something we're planning to do, we ran into way too many problems with conflicting shortcuts and rendering issues the last time we tried to make the text tool work like this.

can we atleast have > Double click opens the edit dialog. instead of having to press enter key everytime.
Right now, a Triple click opens the edit dialog which feels strange.

Yes, we're working on a much nicer way to open the editor.
