I'd really like it if Krita had a mode you can turn on and off to pan the screen while the pen is pressed to the tablet.
For example, let's say I have a canvas size of 6000 x 4000 (a fairly average size for what kind of work I do). I have two specific points on either end of the canvas that I want to connect with a line. The problem is that if I use the line tool, the only way I could make a single line of the needed length would be to zoom out all of the way, which would be extremely inaccurate for the purposes of connecting two points; even if, while zoomed out, it looks like the line is going straight through a point, it could be way off. I can't just zoom in to the point where I can place the line right where I need it because as soon as my cursor gets to the edge of the part of the canvas displayed on my screen, I have nowhere to go. This may also be a nuisance if I'm zoomed in and drawing something bigger the the screen in a single stroke. I was hoping the devs could implement some kind of Pan Mode where, if you enable it, when your brush gets to the edge of the screen, the screen pans to the part of the canvas in that direction. You can draw from one side to the other in a single stroke on a 10000 x 10000 canvas while zoomed into 100%. I think this would be easy to implement as far as features go, but it would really make a big difference in the program. |

I had the same thought about selections, actually. GIMP does it automatically for all the select tools and the crop tool. Not for lines though, but I think it for all tools that only do a thing when you release the mouse/pen (as opposed to regular brush strokes that draw immediately), plus the lasso/freehand select, it wouldn't even have to be an extra option you need to enable? Text editors etc do the scroll on select, too, so it's something people will already be used to.

There's a switch for that in the code, but for painting, it just doesn't work. Panning and painting at the same gives super broken lines.

Observed with the 4.1.7 appimage with a Wacom Intuos tablet:
When using a mouse with the Line Tool, the canvas will auto-pan when you move to the edge of the screen image. This doesn't happen with the polyline tool, which is a pity. The strange thing is that when using a pen, the canvas will auto-pan when using the line tool if you do that on a newly created image. If you then use the mouse for anything, the pen will no longer auto-pan with the line tool, even with an additional new image. The only way to get it to auto-pan again is to close all open images and create a new image. |
