Hi!

I just wanted to float an idea to keep down the busywork when using Krita for animation.

How it works currently:

I do rough animation. Then I want to do clean-up. So I make a new layer. And I go in and manually place empty frames to match the keyframes of my rough animation. And when I'm done with that, I'll get creative again. Then I want to do inking. Again. Manually rebuilding the keyframes of the last layer before I can get creative again. And maybe again once more I add a layer for colors and one for shadows and highlights.

What I'd prefer:

A shortcut that duplicates the active layer but with empty keyframes. Boom, I'm ready to continue being creative without doing menial labour.

Workaround today:

I guess I could be using auto keyframes. But I still have to get to the frame and draw something to create the keyframe for it to appear. And the goal for me here is to be able to quickly tap play, see the frames play out in their set length without them overstaying their welcome so to speak. Yes, I rather have empty frames blink into view as a placeholder signifying work that has yet to be done, than have keyframes with the wrong duration at playback. And I think it would be easiest to just duplicate the active layer with the keyframe placements while leaving out the actual content of the keyframes.

Some would probably suggest the Add Multiple Keyframes Option. But I rarely work on timelines where there are keyframes on every frame. I use 24 fps timelines and my keyframes vary wildly between being on ones to two's and three's and beyond as each movement warrants it. So if I used that feature for this I would be in a reversed predicament where I have to delete more keyframes than I'd have to add if I went with the regular approach.
