Hello,
I frequently need to draw or paint beyond the area that will be seen in the final exported image. This is particularly true for animations, which often feature scrolling elements, especially backgrounds. While it's already possible to move elements outside the canvas with transform masks, anything not within its boundaries is hidden from view. Illustrators can crop the image before exporting, but in animation, a layer may start out at one location and move to another. I submit that Krita decouple the canvas from the output frame, allowing the drawing area to extend beyond the limits of the exported video's resolution. I suggest having either :
The dialog would include adjustable width and height values. As an alternative, there could also be four fields to determine the margin between each side of the render area and the canvas, with two radio buttons to choose which frame will serve as the immutable anchor (the other being resized in relation to it). See this rough mock-up: (Of course this dialog is a little long; the extra section could be on the right, instead.) If the canvas and render area have different values, a thin border inside the canvas would be enough to establish where the render area ends. This would make animation work (as well as illustration work, I expect) much more convenient; I hope the dev team will consider it. I also welcome suggestions from other artists. Thank you. |
