IMPORTANT: How to report issues

Tue Jul 15, 2014 5:41 am
When reporting issues against the workspace (Plasma 5) bear in mind that at the moment most of the KDE Applications have not yet been fully ported to the new Frameworks. Therefore, some commonly-used parts of the normal workspace usage are not yet available. For those, some distributions still offer git snapshots for users to test.

In this case, do not file bugs on bugs.kde.org yet unless the developers are ready to accept them. Focus on KF5 porting is expected to come after the 4.14 release.

When finding problems, refer to the General Troubleshooting guidelines. Always post your issues here before reporting a bug on KDE's bug tracker.

If all else fails and you need to report a bug on http://bugs.kde.org, please bear in mind the following:
  • Do not file bugs against the "plasma" product: these refer to the 4.x versions and should be kept separate from Next issues;
  • If the bug is in any component of KF5, please file a bug against the component itself and not Plasma Next;
  • If the bug involves KWin (the window manager), please file it against KWin ("kwin" product) itself;
  • If the bug involves the actual Plasma shell, file it against "plasmashell";
  • If the bug involves activities (e.g. issues with settings, and so on), but not the actual activity user interface, file it against "kactivities", otherwise use "plasmashell", component "Activity Switcher";
  • Be as specific as possible when selecting the "component" (e.g. activity switcher, clock, etc.) in bugs.kde.org;
  • Do not report bugs against kdeplasma-addons components as they are not be part of the initial Plasma Next release;
  • If possible, avoid reporting "wishlist" type requests, as the major focus is on bug reporting, fixing, and general polishing.

VERSIONS

Plasma 5 has a three-month release cycle. Therefore, in order to identify better if an issue is already fixed or not, always state your Plasma 5 version, or git snapshot if you follow the development directly.

IMPORTANT

For the first Plasma Next release, the widgets and other components of Plasma Addons (repository "kdeplasma-addons") will not be released: the developers are focusing on improving and polishing the core Plasma components first. As such, please don't file bugs against these components, as it's known that they have lots of issues and it's too soon to test them out. More work will be done for the subsequent Plasma Next releases.
