The instructions are apparently here: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Packages#Kubuntu. However, I run

Same problem here. Are the packages just not ready yet?

This blog post offers some possibilities for Kubuntu users.

Yes, these are the same directions we have been following with the resultant error message that the package is not found. Hence the question, are the packages not ready yet? Is there an alternate install method until they are? Are there instructions for a manual install of KDE 5?

You may want to enquire to Kubuntu directly on this issue.

I looked at the Kubuntu website but didn't find an announcement about plasma5 or next. Presumably they aren't inviting people to try it out because it's not ready, so I'll leave it be. I only asked here because I found the instructions through kde.org, but based on your answer the KDE team wouldn't be able to help out.
Thanks anyway (: |

You used the instructions for Utopic 14.10 (option 2) not Trusty 14.04 (option 1). Reread the instructions given on community.kde.org again carefully and you get it. In 14.04 Plasma 5 is installed in /opt so it is not touching your current Plasma installation. You can choose your session at your login screen. The little feedback I have read so far for the project neon packages (14.04) has been not so great. Appearantly the solution of using Plasma 5 in 14.10 or the live cd works better. Of course that is not really an option for a production system yet, but intented to get some feedback. |

I don't know that the instructions were that clear before (at the very least they definitely weren't numbered). Anyway, I don't have 14.10, and I wouldn't want to upgrade so early to the alpha. I have tried project neon but it's not been the best (I can't seem to find the breeze theme, for one). Then I don't think I can make any permanent changes in the live ISO...so I'll just wait this one out.
