Hello
![]() I tried to install Plasma 5 session, so far i can't boot Kde Plasma 5 correctly and have something like 3 to 6 error messages on an empty screen. I'm using openSUSE 13.1 and installed plasma5-session using the information provided here : http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:KDE_repositories , thus using the following repositories : KF 5 : http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_13.1/ Qt 5 : http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_13.1/ Is this too early or does it work already ? What can i do to improve this ? Thanks ![]() For Your Information :

do you have KDE 4 still installed? if so that may be the issue, try this thread https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread. ... 9912ec8aef

And what error messages are there? Btw, it works fine here since months on my openSUSE 13.1 systems. At first with the packages from KDE:Unstable:Frameworks, but since August I'm using my own packages (branched from KDE:Frameworks5 though) that can be co-installed with KDE4. Anyway, if there would be a general problem like you describe with those packages in KDE:Frameworks5, I would experience it as well. |

Hi
![]() yes, i was using kde 4, with these repos for current and extra : ftp://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensu ... SUSE_13.1/ ftp://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensu ... SUSE_13.1/ The errors i met are from krunner and plasmashell that are aborted, 3 times for the last one. What shall i do then ? add this repo and move all KF5 to it ? (some packages it seems more likely) http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... ameworks5/ so far yast can't create the repo when i'm trying to add it. Thanks ![]()

Just that? Maybe something in ~/.xsession-errors-:0 ?
If you add that repo and install the packages from there, it allows you to keep/use KDE4. Otherwise there's not much difference to the "official" packages. And yes, you should switch all packages to that repo, it only contains those that conflict with KDE4 anyway. In particular plasma5-session and plasma5-workspace have to be both from that repo, otherwise Plasma 5 will not start. Probably you should run "zypper dup --from xxx" or click on "Switch system packages to the versions in this repository" in YaST to be on the safe side.
You have to add your openSUSE version to the URL of course. I.e.: http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... nSUSE_13.1 Btw, an existing KDE4 installation should not give problems, not even for the standard Plasma5 packages. But the "official" ones force you to uninstall KDE4's desktop. |

PS, just to be clear: You don't have to install _all_ packages from that repo. In particular not all the additional applications like Kate, Dolphin, Ark, and so on. Actually you only need plasma5-session, the rest that's necessary for a basic working desktop will be selected automatically (that's the same for KDE:Frameworks5 on which my packages base upon). |

To be honest, I expected this.
Well, I don't have time right now to look at it in detail, but it shows that krunner and plasmashell crashed. On a quick glimpse I spotted this:
This could point to a graphics driver problem, i.e. no working OpenGL support. How are you starting Plasma5? What graphics card/driver are you using? What's the output of "glxinfo | grep render" (you might have to install Mesa-demo-x first). |

Your installation is severely broken. Why that is, I can't say (not using SuSE), but it's very likely that you installed libraries from incompatible sources.
DRI is "direct rendering", it comes with MESA, but is split into individual packages (per hardware) by distros. The shared objects /usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so and /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so should link some "/usr/lib/libLLVM-*.so"
the version of that library does not provide the symbol "_ZNK4llvm12MemoryObject9readBytesEyyPh", ie. the function MemoryObject::readBytes() cannot be resolved -> the module is "incomplete" and cannot be used. try
to see whether any installed libLLVM provides that symbol at all. For a proper update/upgrade process on SuSE, I'm unfortunately no help - doin what the guy in the bugreport did may be the solution, but I've no idea what he did itfp ![]() |
