Hi there,

I would like to switch to Plasma 5, but one of the major blockers for me is support for GTK2 and GTK3 apps in the Plasma 5 system tray. I read over this information...

http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2 ... ray-icons/
http://notmart.org/blog/2014/06/systemt ... t-and-gtk/

...but frankly I don't understand what actually needs to be done by the distro packagers (I use openSUSE) to actually implement this. Does every single GTK2/GTK3 app need to be coded to work with libappindicator or statusnotifier? Or is it a matter of compiling GTK2 / GTK3 with support for those libraries, and the apps will work automatically? And in general, how much work will this be to implement for distro maintainers and packagers?

Thanks!

So far the GNOME team (to my knowledge, at least) in openSUSE hasn't pushed the appindicator patches, meaning that for now there's no support for Status Notifiers in GTK+.
