Hi,
since I upgraded my desktop, using kubuntu, to plasma5, I can't log in anymore. Once I entered my login/password, the loading screen is displayed (but the progress bar seems to be stuck) then an error message appears reading "Can not start ksmserver". I tried renaming my .kde, .config, .local, .cache folders but that did not fix it. What I did :
Here is my .xession-errors content :
Please ask if you need more information, I am really stuck here |

Well, thanks ! I wouldn't have found the topics you linked by my own ( I did not see the unmet dependencies error, so I wouldn't have thought it was linked).
So, I guess I will use LXDE while they fix this. I am reassured that the issue is not really my fault . |

Hi,
The last batch of updates from the Kubuntu next/ next -backports broke my desktop. Was using sddm for login, then got message that ksmserver would not start. Went to a terminal, logged in and tried to start x. Complained no screens found. Tried to reconfigure for getting back xserver but no luck. There is a permissions issue for the login that was broken with the updates. One complaint at startup is that systemd logind cant access user@1000. Since the Plasma 5 Desktop is so new, and now with upstart and systemd in play, I need some info on how to clean up or reconnect my user account to log in. Otherwise, the new Plasma Desktop is very nice, and Fast! |
