Icon preview in folder mode

Sun Apr 12, 2015 11:02 am
I have setup my desktop in folder mode (doing like this since years and too lazy to change :) ) and I have noticed that with Plasma 5 I can see the preview only for very few types of files, when in Dolphin, I see a lot of them. And, if I am not wrong, in KDE4 I could also enable preview for almost any kind of file in the desktop.

Is it just me being dumb or there is a problem?

Thanks a lot for your help

The folder desktop or the folder view widget are showing available KF5 preview plugins:

KF5 thumbcreator API : http://api.kde.org/frameworks-api/frame ... eator.html

The Dolphin (KDE 4 application) is showing available KDE4 preview plugins:

KDE 4 thumbcreator API : http://api.kde.org/4.x-api/kdelibs-apid ... eator.html

The KF5 Dolphin will show the same preview plugins as the plasma 5:

The KDE 4 and the KF5 plugins have different installation paths.
(this is with the Kubuntu)

KDE 4
desktop part: /usr/share/kde4/services/
shared library part: /usr/lib/kde4/

KF5
desktop part: /usr/share/kservices5/
shared library (64bit): /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/

The KDE4/KF5 disparency will go away when the plugins are ported to the KF5 and there are only KF5 applications.

With the Kubuntu - maybe useful with the other distributions:
