System Tray items are either always shown or hidden

Hi,

It seems like System Tray items like applets and Plasma widgets are either always hidden or always shown. Some of the notable examples are ownCloud, CopyQ, Redshift Control, KeePassX, etc. Is this automatically managed by Status and Notifications? Are their APIs that 3rd party devs are not using which is causing this problem?

If the tray icons are not using the full Status Notifier specification, they don't support those additional features, IIRC.
