this happened when i closed the lid on my desktop while kubuntu was loading...

now every time i chose to login on kubuntu, display turns off so..where are these settings and how do i manually configure them?

Renaming that directory should probably do.
also better run "kcmshell5 kded" and disable the kscreen module.
