More info:
enbattery mysteriously kept being added to new panels I created until I stumbled apon: ~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids and removed files with references to enbattery. This seems to be some kind of local home for user-downloaded plasmoids. Speaking of plasmoids, I would love to be able to figure out how to backup and restore my custom panels in kde5. A recent foray into fixing the desktop configuration vis-a-vis my external monitor wiped out my old panel with about 20 custom icons and shortcuts. What files would I have had to backup in *KDE5* to be able to restore the old panel? I'll start a new question as well.bAC |

@colinw - I split this out from the thread you posted in as it is a separate topic

note: I don't really use Plasma 5 yet but this looks correct
backup your plasma files, appears to be ~/.config/plasma* (this will also backup the plasma-workspace folder)
to restore you would need to stop plasma and restore the backed up files 1) stop plasma
2) restore backed up files 3) restart plasma

Just verified that this works. Thanks again, google01103!
Added bonus: turns out I had a recent backup of the whole .config directory - panel + shortcuts restored! |

I did not find any plasma panel configs in ~/.config/panel* folders (I have kde plasma version 5.17). I actually found plasma desktop layout settings (including the default kde plasma panel) stored in this file:
