What's really odd is that ° would rather match M than m.
Also ° is AltGr+Shift+0 - and now here it is:

I've both 3rd level assignments (AltGr+Shift+m, AltGr+Shift+0), but while "m" works as expected, "0" fails.
There's (afaics) no problem assigning Ctrl+° - but at least I can now check what's going on there =)

No problem.

Although AltGr+Shift+0 and AltGr+Shift+m both seems to return the same character I got different outputs fro KWrite:

If you can, try the patch. This could be some client side mapping or rendering (the underline not belonging to the symbol), but if AltGr+Shift+m is not the same key symbol as "°", there's either an additional bug (in an xcb/X11 function, not KDE) resolving the keycodes of "°" to a key that actually contains the underlined ° (I don't even find that in the unicode table), the patch might not work for you :-(

This is fixed in Plasma 5.8. Closing.
