I had originally asked something related to this on another post but this is more specific. I apologize if this is considered cross posting.
I am running fedora 23, a brand new install, with Plasma version 5.5.5 . Been attempting to get the desktop cube working. There are 4 virtual desktops, in one row. As was suggested by someone on the forum, I checked /usr/lib64/qt5/plugins/kwin/effects/configs to see if kwin_cube_config.so was there and it was! However, in my "system settings" dialog, under "desktop effects", I do not see "desktop cube" as an option. Under "virtual desktops", I do see under "animation" "Desktop cube animation". I also just noticed that in the "virtual desktops" setting, even though "Animation" is set to "desktop cube animation", under "shortcuts" there is no "ctrl+F11" shortcut. Therefore, i simply conclude that Desktop cube animation is simply not enabled. Has anyone gotten the desktop cube to work in fedora? Thank You Tom |

What did you do to that output?
Anyway, > Compositing is active Compositing Type: XRender run "kcmshell5 kwincompositing" and change the type to OpenGL - since that might fail, post the output of "glxinfo" as well. |

Yes, you were correct, changing the compositing type to Opengl did not work. I rebooted.
I just posted the output of glxinfo to https://paste.kde.org/all under the title of "tcipollone glxinfo output" BTW, you had asked what I had done to the output of qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation. All that I did was "echo $(qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation) > file.txt". I did not know how to get the formatting any better. Thank You Tom

Yes, I am running the default nouveau driver. I have a gtx960 graphics card.
On this install i did not load the Nvidia driver because it is usually such a pain. You, know, having to compile the driver against the kernel and all. Usually something goes wrong. Are you saying that desktop cube and other advanced graphics will not work unless I install the Nvidia driver? or, are you saying that there is an OpenGL driver that I need to update for my hardware? Please clarify. Thank You for your help. Tom |

you're *not* running nouveau, likely because it's still blacklisted (kernel module) or because the nouveau-dri module (from mesa) isn't installed or xf86-video-nouveau (the xorg driver) isn't installed.

I believe you. What would be your first and second recommendation? And thank you again for all of your help. Tom |

> [ 25.000] (II) [drm] nouveau interface version: 1.3.1
> [ 25.000] (EE) Unknown chipset: NV126 You'll require MESA 11.2 & Linux 4.6 for Maxwell support - or the nvidia blob. If you want to avoid the latter by all means, you'll have to run KWin (and better any GL client) on the intel chip. |
