I recently upgraded to latest kde/plasma-desktop (5.5.4-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15) and now I can't start. After login in sddm I got some windows, no frame, no pannel, no systray. Sometimes if i run from alt+f2 kwin it fixed for current session, but not always. I had to restart sddm about 3-5 times to get all working.
I tried to find that config files cause this issue. From some iterations I found that these files affect an issue:
akonadi_akonotes_resource_0rc
kactivitymanagerdrc
korgacrc
krunnerrc
kscreenlockerrc
ksmserverrc
plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc
plasmashellrc
powermanagementprofilesrc
user-dirs.dirs

I tried to determine which one but no success, sometimes it works but most of all time not.
I can start with empty profile, but not want to.

fyi - 5.6 is latest

have you tried as a new user?

can you run plasmashell from Konsole? if so are there error messages

graphics config inc drivers may help

you could try renaming your plasma rc files in ~/.config and restarting the plasmashell

I use ppa repos, there is no 5.6 in it for now.
Yes I tried to rename .config and logint with new user - it works, but I want to preserve my settings.
I tried run plasmashell from Konsole at first, but it not helped. Only run kwin helps sometimes.

you can try just resetting your plasma config settings and keeping all else

plasma - desktop reset
note: you may wish to keep ~/.config/plasma-workspace if you set shutdown scripts or use the env folder
Code: Select all
kquitapp plasmashell
 sleep 20s
 mkdir -p $HOME/plasma-config/
 mv ~/.config/plasma* $HOME/plasma-config/
plasmashell &

you can this with KDE not running in a virtual terminal (alt+F1), just ignore the plasmashell lines

I re-installed 5.5.4 from neon repo, it works now (but with other not annoying bugs). Before I used ppa repo.
Thanks.

Now with latest packages from neon repo plasmashell not started. I tried to remove .config/plasmsa* - it not helps. Manual start works.
And while starting kde, windows appears for a second before end of progress bar.
