One of the most important functions, which is S.M.A.R.T HDD reposting is still not incoporated in any widget available. And S.M.A.R.T status is THE most important/expected thing to be displayed right on our desktops.... Somebody with me?

it a binary widget, if its not in any Kubuntu ppa then you'll need to compile it https://github.com/papylhomme/diskmonitor/tree/0.3.1

xx@xxx:/x/diskmonitor-0.3.1/build$ sudo cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$(kf5-config --prefix) -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release -DKDE_INSTALL_USE_QT_SYS_PATHS=ON
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:12 (find_package):
Could not find a package configuration file provided by "ECM" (requested

ECMConfig.cmake
ecm-config.cmake

Add the installation prefix of "ECM" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set "ECM_DIR"
to a directory containing one of the above files. If "ECM" provides a
separate development package or SDK, be sure it has been installed.

Didn't notice it at first, but it did change:

there should be patterns or meta packages or something to install the required packages to compile KDE and QT apps in Kubuntu which is properly what you're missing - don't use it so don't know. You could start a new thread regarding compiling on Kubuntu, Operating System Specific -> Linux forum might be appropriate here or ask them.
