When I updated my system about two weeks ago, I rebooted and found that my notifications widget was no longer working and it came up as "Unknown" if placed in a panel. Putting the notifications widget on the desktop itself, I get this message:
Code: Select all
Error loading Applet: package inexistent. Could not find requested component: org.kde.plasma.notifications

Additionally, I can no longer access my desktop settings when I right click the desktop, and changing mouse actions does nothing. Right clicking widgets on the panel also does not reveal any actions. My plasma-desktop version is 4:5.6.5-1 and my plasma-widgets-addons version is 4:5.6.5-1. plasma-widgets-workspace is 4:4.11.13-2.

What distro do you have?

Clearly plasma-widgets-workspace refers to an older kde/plasma version 4.11.13 compared to 5.6.5). Can you upgrade this package to latest version available in your distro? If there is no later version, then can you uninstall it?

I'm on Debian Testing. I can't upgrade plasma-widgets-workspace, and uninstalling it will also remove plasma-dataengines-workspace, which is version 4:4.11.13-2. It seems safe to uninstall, but I want to be sure I can do so without breaking something else.

Uninstalling plasma-widgets-workspace hasn't done anything to fix my problem.

I was able to fix my problem by updating libkf5plasma5 from version 5.22 to 5.23. My system works flawlessly now.

Surprised Debian hasn't done anything about it yet... Did you apt pin or how did you install it from the unstable repo?

And my trusty krunner is working again ;)

I just put unstable in the repos, installed that package and chucked it out again. Suppose your way is a little less complicated (cough).
