my network applet window is way too small for all the wifi-networks around me. With KDE 4 it was simple to change the size, but with plasma 5 I don't know how to do it.

Do I have to edit an RC file?

The plasma 5 popups aren't resizable. A bug report: Bug 332512 - Plasma Popups aren't resizable - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=332512

You could file a bug report against the network applet at the https://bugs.kde.org.

The new size is not saved when you log out/reboot.
