Can KDE open links from applications in my browser only?

Hello. I commonly use a chat app on my desktop. When I click links in this app, I expect them to always open in my browser. However, if the link given is to a jpg, png, gif, etc., it opens in Gwenview.
I don't like this behavior, because:
  • It takes longer to open another gwenview instance than it does to load the image up in a browser tab.
  • Gwenview seems to be unable to handle some of the images I am linked to (especially GIFs) in a sane manner.
  • It is harder for me to download and save images from this UI.
This behavior only seems to happen in KDE, so I am assuming it has something to do with the way Plasma 5 handles these links.
Is there any way to change this so that all links I click in my desktop environment open in my browser?

OS
Systemsettings->Applications->Default Applications->Webbrowser.
The default is to use a fitting application based on the content, but you can explicitly set a browser there too.
