Icon-only taskbar: Emacs and Emacsclient randomly separate

Since Plasma 5.10 I observe the following behavior:
Emacs(server) and Emacsclient sometimes share the same task-slot in the icon-only taskbar and sometimes they appear as separate tasks. This occasionally switches for no apparent reason.
It used to be the case that exactly one icon appeared per Emacs instance, so the difference between Emacs and Emacsclient was basically transparent. (This is also how it works on windows.) Now, I have to start emacs with one icon but return to it from other tasks by using a different icon.
Is this intended? Is there a workaround to get the old behavior back for this case?
