Hi,
yesterday i did 2 upgrades of my computers from'ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10. while my laptop had some issues with nvidia drivers...as usual... now it works great. my concern is about my desktop comptuer where i use AMD graphic card R7 radeon. upgrade was good but when i'm on the logging screen, i type my login name and password, KDE start as i see the "plasma 5 made by KDE" text...but kde returns me to login screen and display me error message that ksmserver could not start. please check installation. i found no information on internet about this issue that could lead me to some solution. any idea how to solve that? thx

ok so i got some interesting results by simply using another user.
everything seems to work well. so it looks like issue is located in my day to day profile.

ok guys, so i solved the problem.
So if you are an Ubuntu 17.04/17.10 user you could have the same issue. In fact the devil is in the ATI drivers v17.30. Drivers are not anymore compatible with ubuntu 17.10 and kernel 4.13. just need to type: amdgpu-pro-uninstall in a terminal and to uninstall ATI driver. next restart computer and voila!!!! so i purchased a Radeon RX 560 to avoid issue with propertary driver under ubuntu but ATI is the same.
