kdm.service not found

Wed Oct 25, 2017 5:16 pm
Hi everyone. I'm brand new to KDE 5.11.1 today! Installed ok, but cant login.
tried
systemctlrestart kdm
in tty2, and the response said
unit kdm.service not found

apparently, there is no such file or directory.

I have absolutely no idea where to go from here.

Any helpers?
many thanks!!!

KDM was dropped in KDE 5 in favor of SDDM.

What do you mean by can't log in? Does the login screen not show up? Does it show up but when you enter your credentials the session fails to start?

Hi Airdrik,
Thanks for your response!
trying to boot up kdm was the possible solution I found via Dr. Google. If it's been discontinued, then that's probably why the pc can't find it!

When the pc boots up it takes me to the login screen successfully.
I enter my password (which I can confirm is correct as it was accepted in TTY), and i get the message saying login failed. All online enquiries have seemed to point towards some kind of lightdm/gmd/kdm (delete as applicable) issue.

cheers,
Dave
