Minecraft broke Plasma

Mon Apr 02, 2018 4:16 pm
I'm having a strange issue with Minecraft breaking Plasma-5.44 on my Gentoo machine. It works perfectly until I quit the game, then the screen goes black and even the mouse pointer disappears. I can restart sddm through the console using ALT-F1 but from then on, every time I log in I just get an initial Plasma splash screen then darkness prevails.
The only way I can get Plasma back is by deleting my entire .local directory in my home user directory and all is good until I play minecraft again!
This doesn't occur if I use another desktop enviroment, just Plasma, I am using the nvidia drivers but this fault only started occurring recently but I don't know what has caused it. There is nothing in /var/log/sddm.log or Xorg.0.log, where is the log file for plasma these days? There used to be a log file in the same place in KDE4, has it moved?
Anyone experiencing this or know a fix?

I use xrandr on all my systems with Plasma. No issues, and I run Steam on a few.

Lots of things depend on the library, so you likely had it installed already. The xrandr app is a command-line tool for manipulating the library. Minecraft likely did something your system didn't like. Erasing the old configuration may have allowed your system to generate a clean, working configuration.
