Is there ANY way to remove (or edit) the giant "shortcut/link" arrow that gets shown on all icons placed on the desktop, when desktop is
configured to show the /home/$user/Desktop folder? All DuckDuckGo searches come up with how-to's on removing shortcut arrows from Windows desktop icons. ???

Well GEE, it's a lot more than x days. It's a (symbolic)shortcut, so it'll have the arrow. If you look it up, there's been countless posts on this matter all over the place. Imo, the easiest way not to have that arrow or Italic font, is simply to put the shortcut there as an application. For example, a certain directory would be dolphin /path/to/directory. And so on. The only downside is, that when it's a directory shortcut, you will not have the folder view popup.
Is there another method? Probably. But it would require a whole lot of editing root files.

Gee then you guys wonder why we the end users go any place but her for help. Regardless of the claim in the post above this one I knowq there has to be away to remove those arrows. Would be wonderful if at least one dev would actually weigh in on this.

For that you need to talk to the devs where the devs are, e.g. make a bug report on https://bugs.kde.org and/or contact the developers on #plasma on Matrix/IRC or via the plasma mailing list.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

The devs should be monitoring the forums. All this is is a matter of knowing what the image is called and replacing it per icon theme with a simple translucent image. Should not have to put in a feature request to get the information.
