As you are on Mint 19.1, this is the same as Kubuntu 18.04 LTS. The only packages for this version, even in PPAs will be 5.12.x versions. The directions you are following are for Kubuntu 18.10.

Now, you can get the 5.12.x updates a bit sooner by using the updates ppa :

You already have the latest available, but 5.12.8 will be here first before it makes it to the standard repos.

Thr error message tells you specifically what to do to try and correct the problem. Something stopped the package install process (user killed, or interrupted it, power outage, etc) and the command given will attempt to compete installing where it left off.

Something happened between running full-upgrade command and the error message, so it is very difficult to know exactly what the cause is.

a friend got it sorted to the 5.15.4, but for some reason it just went side-ways. by that i mean the system removed everything kde and won't let me reinstall it. telling me i have broken packages, but when i enable the filter it finds nothing. this is what we finally went back to which has been update to 5.15.4.

If you got any plasma newer than Plasma 5.12.x LTS on your Mint 19 system( ie Ubuntu 18.04), them you have mixed repos (18.04 and 18.10). This WILL mess up your system due to the very large amount of dependency differences between the two releases.

Again, you don't give enough of the full apt output, or say what specific sources you used to get Plasma 5.14, but I do know that there simply no newer plasma packages for 18.04 than 5.12.7 in any Ubuntu PPA anywhere, period.

If you don't specify exactly what specific steps you actually performed, with more of the apt output that happens before the final errors, we can't see what happened, and see how we might help you fix it.

This info is what is missing. Your link does not show how you got to 5.14, but only shows which packages to install. On an unmodified Mint, the instructions in your link get you Plasma 5.12.7 as found in Ubuntu/Kubuntu 18.04.

What we need to see is what was modified before you followed the instructions in the link:
Post the contents of the file: /etc/apt/sources.list
as well as the list of files found inside /etc/apt/sources.list.d.
This command will show this, and you can copy/paste the output:

The file is completely empty? Well, that would be a problem, i think.
Wait, this is Mint, so there isn't one, which is normal.

I don't know which file that they use as the default source listing in the sources.list.d directory, but I will guess that it will be official-package-repositories.list, as well as additional-repositories.list. Not knowing what your friend did makes it harder but not impossible. If we can see the contents of these, it might help.

If you run this command

cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* | grep cosmic

it will list any contents of any files in the sources.list.d directory that may contain 'cosmic' in them. If there aren't any, (the command will not have any output) , please post the content of the two files above. I don't think any other of the very large number of PPAs you have are likely to be an issue.

why are we looking for cosmic? when i'm on bionic? sorry almost forgot that command listed nothing as well.

, and I am tryiing to find out how that was done, as there is no other info to go on. This sounds exactly like a major package conflict, and a good cause is mixed repositories. Mixing repositories is the only way to have gotten plasma 5.14 on an Ubuntu 18.04 based system.

Just above this would where it shows which packages are involved, which would give huge clues as to what is causing things.

But not knowing what your friend did or undid, I can't tell where start, so i start at the top, the easiest thing to check based on what you give me, and go from there.
Since that didn't pan out, we'll go on to another place to look.

We need to see more of the errors shown when you run apt full-upgrade, probably a good dozen or more lines above the final error, or anything that looks useful.




Really, this belongs on a Mint specific support channel, as this is a KDE support forum, and other than KDE Neon, this place does not have the distro-specific knowledge that the Mint folks would have. But I'll try as much as I can.

o.k. after some more checks looks like .12 is the newest i can do in mint 19.1, so can we see if we can purge the bad info and or files and reinstall kscreen? i just attempted to reinstall kate knowing it would error out, cause i wanted to get the following info in the hopes that it will have fix my issue. thanks

My guess is that you would have to remove all plasma related packages, including applications, libraries, etc , to get rid of all the 5.14 stuff, and then reinstall plasma, which will get back the 5.12 packages.

I do not know a safe, reliable, and sure way of doing this. There are a lot of suggestions, but most are useless commands.

If this was a simple PPA addition, it would be quite simple. As it was probably either an added Debian or Ubuntu repo, it will not. If we knew what was done to get 5.14, we might be able to generate a list of packages.

You *might* try using Synaptic to filter for "KDE" and "Installed" packages, and uninstall them from there, but I am not 100% sure if this will get *everything*, and require random clean ups afterward.

having another desktop environment to log in to will be handy here, if you don't already have one.

But in any case, it will be at very least a bit messy.
