earlier today i noticed i no longer have any notification sound. i went into sounds and attempted to set the slider to 78% but it kept going back to 0. i honestly do not know where to start looking for a cause. suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Some diagnostic questions come to mind.
Can you play audio files or streaming audio? What is the audio chipset in this machine? When you "went into sounds," where exactly did you go? (I'm pretty sure it was KDE System Settings-->Personalization-->Notifications, but it's nice to know for sure.) What version of KDE/Plasma is on this box? |

all video and audio files play without issue.
there is no setting in either notification submenu under personalization. i rightclicked on the sound icon, clicked audio volume settings, audio volume. plasma 5.16.3 / kubuntu 19.04

How about making a bug report to the Plasma people? The notification sound icon stays grayed out, so either they screwed up the KCM when migrating from evdev to libinput or it is indeed a downstream (aka distribution) problem. Only way to find out is to make a bug report on https://bugs.kde.org
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

thanks for the advice, but you should of asked if i have made a bug report instead of assuming i haven't. my bug report has been filed with them for several days now. i poste here, kde forums, linuxquestions, and made the bug report so there would be more people seeing the thread, cause more likely that way that someone will have a solution.

Hm, that is called crossposting, usually rather counterproductive as it is the best way to get pushed further down the queue. Linuxquestions is probably not on our devs radar anyway, as there is a lot of redundant and outdated stuff from people who use much older releases.
Please give a link to the bug report here, that is much more helpful and I can ping some devs about it.

you only get pushed down the list if you post more than one thread about the something in the same forum. nothing wrong with how i handled my threads. here's the report the one dev felt mine was a dup of. i added the info from mine to the bottom of it. thanks for being willing to take the time to put a bug in their ear, much appreciated.

I added a comment on the bug, will try to ping someone but it's the weekend now here in Europe so might take a few days to solve.

thank you, i'm in no real rush. it is only the notification sounds after all. i do think it has to do with the hardware. if i unplug the speakers from the builtin sound card my soud comes through my monitor speakers. the only way it can do that is via the hdmi cable connected to the video card. thanks again.
