let me start with i've been trying set the kubuntu / plasma desktop up for 3 screens. desktop 1 for apps i open, desktop 2 for the dolphin windows i like to keep open, desktop 3 a empty desktop. as you can see from the below image i set dolphin to go to the 2nd desktop. once set i closed and reopened dolphin and it went to the 2nd desktop like i wanted. i thought that i was all set, but from my shortcuts folder i clicked vivaldi and it opened on the 2nd desktop instead of the 1st one. anyone know what i did wrong since by rights any apps other than dolphin should of opened on the 1st desktop. thanks

I suppose I should apologize for not responding earlier; I'd passed this by, being generally short on time and not entirely understanding the problem.

Looking at your screenshot, It looks like you've set up Application settings (for Dolphin, I assume) to remember that Dolphin should launch on the 2nd desktop. Just having that setting for Dolphin won't force other applications to move to other desktops - they will open on whatever desktop you are on when you open them unless there's another window rule to move them to another specific desktop. You'd therefore need another window rule to move everything that isn't Dolphin to the 1st destkop.

thanks for the reply much appreciated. basically what i would like is dolphin on the main desktop so no rule needed. having it on the second was just me testing out a few configurations. like i said dolphin on the 1st desktop, browsers and thunderbird on the 2nd, and all other apps on a 3rd, and a 4th desktop just in case. after my last post i realize i can just simple rightclick the items taskbar icon and just send it to whichever desktop i want. yes i know that will only hold if i don't reboot or log off but that's fine. just a extra step that doesn't bother me.

As for restarting/rebooting, Plasma should remember where things were when you log out and pull them up in the same places when you log in.
