KDE Neon: Plasma crashes on login

Sat Oct 05, 2019 1:33 pm
Hi,

I've been using KDE Neon for a few months now, so far no major issues, safe for the occasional Discover crashes.

Today, after logging in successfully, my desktop background shows up for a second, then I'm welcomed with a crash report window and end up with a mouse cursor and a black screen.

I restarted ssdm (via systemctrl), rebooted the system, moved the .kde/ folder (so that plasma creates a new profile, in case dubious settings were causing the issue) to no avails.

To be able to use the system, I had to install XFCE (which I love BTW, but is not up to plasma in terms of features and usability)

I'm in KDE neon User Edition 5.16 (Ubuntu 18.04) and my system is up to date.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

PS: I couldn't file a bug report, because I didn't receive the confirmation email from bugs.kde.org

Too many possible causes, it's impossible to make a guess about it from your description.
Look for log files in ~/.local or ~/.cache, maybe you'll find something more.
You can also have a look in /var/log/messages, lines logged by plasmashell might tell you what it was doing when it crashed.
