After I close the laptop screen to make it sleep, then open it, this is what I see. It also happens on the logon screen during this process.
This happens consistently. Does not happen on reboot or logout/login.

I have my setting on 1920x1080, 60Hz and 100% scale factor.

What's your GPU, what driver are you using?

Are you on nouveau (default) or have you installed a driver? If nouveau, install a driver with software-properties-qt (not installed by default) and run it from CLI, then choose additional drivers tab.

If you have installed a driver, you can add ubuntus nvidia PPA to try more current drivers:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers
$ sudo apt update

And use software-properties-qt the same as above.

I went back reinstalled drivers and then chose nouveau driver. Seems to work (fuzz is gone) and smoother, but it says Manual Driver installed and won't let me go back to choose anything else.

Does it matter if I use the CLI sudo software-properties-qt or from the UI?

Thanks!

I've used software-properties-qt from CLI and also from Muon, they both ask for root access so if it starts I'd say it's working.

I've used it to install both nvidia 440 and just now to revert to nouveau in preparation for a new AMD RX570 that's now installed and both times it showed available options so I don't think it matters where it's launched from.
