Weird behavior with keyboard layout

Mon Sep 21, 2020 2:37 pm
Hello,

I need to sometimes switch keyboard layout for some apps/games (I have an AZERYY layout), but recently the layout manager started to act pretty weird.

So here's what happens:
- If I only have one layout everything works well
- If I have two layouts (one of them being the default one listed in localectl), I can't switch to the second one
- If I have two layouts (without the default one listed in localectl), it always reverts back to the default one when I try to switch layouts

I don't know what's been causing this strange behavior, and it's a bit annoying for programs that don't support AZERTY layout.

Hi there,
The keyboard setting is very dependent on the language. I once had this problem because I changed the basic languages within a very short time. If you don't have this problem, it could be that the games do these settings automatically.

My system settings is in english, so I doubt the problems comes from here.
Also the keyboard switching layout was working before, but suddenly started acting as I described, so I doubt it's the fault of any app either.

Edit: Well, nevermind that, it was caused by the virtual keyboard. Stopping it allows me to switch layout once again.
