Today I heard a disturbing rumour. One of my main reasons for choosing Plasma over, say, LXQT, Is in danger. Something which aids smooth working across multiple desktops is to be taken out of Plasma.
I refer to the Desktop Cube, one of KDE/Plasma's most useful and distinguishing features, which I have loved and enjoyed since Plasma 4 incorporated it and I could say goodbye to Compiz. It seems someone has decided to take it away at the next release. Already, beta versions have had it removed as reported at https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=172758. I have opened a wishlist bug report at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443410. If you want to save the cube, please add your comments there. Thank you. |

Please read comment #3 in the wishlist entry and find a developer who rewrites the effect in qml, voting will not help, this is about manpower of developers.
Here is the direct link to the discussion why the effect was dropped: https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kwin/202 ... 05222.html
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
