Disable recently used option

Tue Jan 25, 2022 5:34 pm
Hi,

I'm looking for a way to disable the recentlyused:// dialog in Dolphin/Application Launcher.

According to what I've found across the web, I tried changing the write permissions on ~/.local/share/RecentDocuments and ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel, as well as adding the following lines to ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals
Code: Select all
[RecentApplications]
MaxEntries=0
UseRecent=false

[RecentDocuments]
MaxEntries=0
UseRecent=false

After logging out and back in, however, recently used files and folders still appear in the application launcher and in recentlyused://

Is there an option to disable this feature somewhere, or at least automate clearing of the recently used directory?

Thanks

I did a little more digging and it turns out that I was missing another key component, so I'm posting this here in case anyone is curious.

Recently used items are stored in
~ /.local/share/RecentDocuments
~ /.local/share/recently-used.xbel
as well as
~ /.local/share/kactivitymanagerd/resources
from what I could find.

Clearing and changing the write permissions on all three items stopped displaying recently used items at the aforementioned locations.

Also, there technically is a system setting for this (at least in Neon)
Workspace > Workspace Behavior > Activities > Activities > (Preferences per activity) Privacy > Do not track usage for this activity
adds specific activities to an "off-the-record" list in kactivitymanagerd-pluginsrc

In any case, messing around with these files has caused some weird stuff to happen on my system, so I share the same concerns as expressed
here https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/657584/disable-kactivitymanagerd and
here https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=167079

Well, if I'm this paranoid I should probably shop around for a more privacy-oriented distro, but I still really like the Plasma interface.
