Using KDE Plasma 5.24.0 currently (KDE Frameworks 5.91.0, Qt 5.15.2, X.org display server). Old KDE userbase wiki shows screensaver option under System Settings -> Display and Monitor. Which additional KDE packages do I need to install in order to get that screensaver? I found currently only monitor power management but no screensaver under KDE. Using EndeavourOS, which is closely based on Arch Linux and using its repositories.

I tried xscreensaver but it doesn't work well. It doesn't detect you watching a movie or a youtube clip.
Every year I try again and again KDE, on any distros, just hoping for this I love sooooooooooooo much KDE but I cand use it without a intregrated screensaver. I got a TV attached with HDMI and I can't just power it off and on 200 time a day. A scrensaver like Linux Mint has on Cinnamon is the best.

Sometimes also that widget, that prevents screen turning off, does not work properly. E.g. even it is not set, still screen does not turn off.
Besides, moved away from Linux Mint Cinnamon. One bug was there: when idle, laptop screen turned off, CPU load went to 100% on all cores. Discussed with developers and no ETA to fix it. |

Hi!
What exactly do you need a screensaver for? The default is kscreenlocker which is configurable in Systemsettings → Workspace Behaviour → Screen Locking or via `kcmshell5 screenlocker` |

When computer is idle, would like to set certain screensaver. Many of xscreensaver ones were good. Also RSS screensavers would be appreciated. Available for Arch Linux, Ubuntu Linux, other distros. |

I have a TV connected through HDMI. I just need it to be blank after 1 minute and Power off after 10 minutes, if no mouse/keyboard imput is given (and of course, if no movie or YouTube is running). Because of this tv I had this problem on many distros...except on Linux Mint Cinnamon. The second I can get a screensaver like that on KDE or at least some solution that doesn't power on and off the TV after the 1 minute, I'm forever on KDE.

Ah, okay. You are searching for a classical screensaver, not a energy save mode. Did not use this for years now, so I cannot give you an actual information, sorry.
You could use DPMS to do this independend of your chosen desktop environment. Either use a classic xorg.conf or a command line script or alias to explicit send the TV to sleep. |

that's a little overwhelming for me ... could you point me in the direction ? And what do you mean by send the TV to sleep ? Right now the Energy Savig work almost perfect. For example I set my TV to "switch off" after 15 minutes here - https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/powerde ... index.html - and that work great. I also tried with a command to show a dark photo in "Run script" after 1 minute ... but it's a barbaric solution so far and I always have to close the photo when moving the mouse. The thing is that I use the laptop with the TV attached to watch movies and youtube clips and very often I have to pause them. So the solution should be for the TV to go black after 1 minute so it will not get damaged in time...sometimes I leave it unattended for a couple of hours sometimes only for 2 minutes. So to power off and on very often a digital device that contains a processors is not a good idea. That's why I need something to just go blank and if I'm still not around after 15 min then it can power off. I don't use the laptop screen btw. And sorry for the long potato description of my problem

Sounds like an issue with screensaver-inhibit instead of power-management-settings itself. As an example: You are streaming your favorite series on «disneys netflix prime» in a browser window and keep watching for hours. Your system doesn't sleep, even if there is no user activity. If you pause the stream, it will just blank after the time you set. Some players may not unlock the session on pausing, I do not know. Anyway, your program must set an inhibitor lock while playing to prevent energy saving, and remove it later. (See org org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver.Inhibit) What player(s) do you use? Does the TV get to sleep if there is no paused video or similar? |

I think we are getting a little off track. Sry, english is not my first language. The Energy Saving on KDE is missing(in my opinion) the feature to just blank the screen (like dark black 100%). You can dim the screen after X minutes, you can power off after X minutes, but you just cand blank the screen, like you can in Windows or LM Cinnamon(shows the clock). If I play a clip with VLC or SMplayer, or Youtube, the TV doesn't turn off ... only after 15 minutes if I pause the stream, which is awesome, it works fine as intended ! But it would be perfect and complete in my case to also have the option to make the TV go blank/dark/black(not off) after X minutes. So for the TV instead of "dim" I need "blank"

You can set the display blank/unblank with
Is this the setting you are looking for? Afair there is no way to blank single monitors, only displays in X. The nearest approach would be --off which is not what you want. :0 has to be replaced by the $DISPLAY you want to blank if there are multiple ones. |

I agree, pausing screensaver due continous activity, e.g. video watching, is appreciated. Although presentation mode applet exist and can be used to pause also screensaver.

They all do the same "blanking" for my TV ... so I could try this, but I don't undersantd the difference between : off/standby/suspend : xset dpms force off Turn off screen immediately xset dpms force standby Standby screen xset dpms force suspend Suspend screen

I have tested and found out that xset dpms force off doesn't have the "power" to turn off my TV.
So now my TV show the message that it doesn't have connection anymore, but I'm still hoping to find a command to "draw' black somehow on my TV

That is hardware dependend if it works. The command just sends a command to the monitor (or TV) and if it does not have an implementation for it, it just does nothing. I'm not into it, so I cannot tell you exactly what happens under the hood.
I don't know the current possibilities of displays, so this could have changed, but afaik standby is only RGB off (should be what you want), suspend is RGB off and the tube off, and power off is like a shutdown with no information kept. |
