How can I diagnose frequent shell deaths and settings lost?

I have somewhat weird problem.

On Debian testing, with:

  • KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.0
  • KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0
  • Qt Version: 5.15.6
  • Kernel Version: 6.0.0-2-amd64 (64-bit)
  • Graphics Platform: X11

The problem is that couple of times a day something breaks, and I lose my background, and some keyboard shorts stop working.

After this happens I generally run:

Code: Select all
kquitapp5 plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell

which helps, a bit. I get back desktop, but it *always* looses settings, and restarts with default "folder view" with some random wallpaper. On all 3 monitors.

So, whenever it happens, I have to change settings on all 3 monitors from scratch (desktop, slideshow, pick folder, pick scaling, pick blur). It's not a big deal, but I have to do it like 3 times a day.

Plus - just today, I booted computer, and it started with default wallpaper, not my slideshow, but in desktop mode, not folder (which is the default after "normal" crash).

What could it be, how can I debug it, and/or where can I report it?

I think that the dying has to do with power management.

I left the computer for some time, and when I got back monitors were off. When I moved mouse, got image back, but desktop is gone, context many while clicking on desktop is gone. Shortcuts work.

My Battery settings are:

Enabled "Dim screen after 5 min"

Enabled "Screen Energy saving switch off after 10 min"

Enabled "Button events handling - when power button pressed "Prompt log out dialog".
