I want to highlight files on my desktop that start with the letter (for example) k. when I type k I expect to go through every file that starts with k, one file at a time. but when I press k button, instead krunner opens. this makes using desktop icons very useless. how do I disable this feature of krunner?

Doubt you can. But um..just curious. How do you intend to get some sort of ls for highlight just by typing a letter? Just typing on a desktop and having krunner pop up sounds sane to me.
Anywhoo...you can disable krunner from appearing by typing a letter. https://imgur.com/a/IJSHNRv

If you're running plasma < 5.25 I guess you're out of luck. The feature was demanded at least going back to 2015 but has only been implemented in 5.25. Unless I'm missing a possibility, your only option is to disable krunner altogether and use something like albert or ulaunch.... If there were a solution like editing the rc file I'd happily post it, but...
