Is it possible to run Linux desktop applications like LibreOffice, GIMP, Pidgin, etc.?

If no then is it difficult to port them?

Yes. Desktop applications are supported and already run.

Appearently with resolution problems though. On my nexus 5 device, especially non-kde apps does not understand the display configuration. No app has a usable webview, including the youtube view in the vplayer app.
