Nexus 5 Testing

Sun Sep 20, 2015 12:56 pm
I just installed it on my Nexus 5, and I'm here to lend a hand. I'm guessing tons of Nexus 5's are already testing it, but whatever. I'm still trying to use it.

Now, I have one question off the bat. It is extremely slow. I checked the memory usage, and it's using 1.81GB out of 2GB RAM just on bootup. What can I do to make it run faster?

Second question: how do I get more applications on it? I tried the "Muon Discover" tool, but it said I didn't have authorization. I tried using the adb shell, and it said "W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock". I also tried konsole directly on the phone and got the same response. The most important app would be a web browser, but there are a variety that I would want. (Contacts, email, SMS, navigation). Is there anything I can do?

A couple more questions. I can't 'su' into root with '1234', and I can't sudo for 'phablet' with '1234'. I can't get root access. What am I missing?

How do I turn the damn thing off? It keeps turning back on when I shut it down. I've even used adb reboot-bootloader just to choose shutdown, and it still keeps turning on.

Maybe the root partition is mounted read-only? What do you get for:
Code: Select all
mount | grep " / "

Switching to read-write would be:
Code: Select all
mount -o remount,rw /
