I recently came across Plasma Mobile and decided to give it a try. I'm using Plasma on the desktop to my full satisfaction so I'd really like to use it on my phone as well.
Seeing that it's considered 'solid' on the Nexus 5 on http://plasma-mobile.org/nexus-5/, I picked up a Nexus 5 and flashed Plasma Mobile on the phone using the provided instructions. In the first 15 minutes of toying around with it I have the on-screen keyboard crash twice, requiring a reboot to get it back. It at least happening when switching from the 'password' to the 'verify' text field when setting up a Blowfish password for Network Manager. In addition, the camera does not work, the screen brightness cannot be adjusted (always at 100%, regardless of what I set the slider to), the battery drains in +- 8 hours while being on standby the whole time and I at one time all touch input was lost. Side buttons worked, but any touch on the screen didn't do anything. Is this what I can expect when running Plasma OS for the time being, or is there something wrong with my phone / the installation? I now flashed to Ubuntu Touch which doesn't seem to have any of these problems, but I'd much rather use Plasma. I really don't mind regular hickups, limited functionality, glitches etc, but in the current state I wouldn't describe it as 'solid' but more as 'barely usable'. |
