Hey all,

Though the question may not be formed to everyone's liking, it would be appreciative if someone of answered. Maybe if the question was admittant, "hey I'm a n00b can you help a windows jockey out with getting this loaded on a 5x?" would that have squandered an answer? (No offense meant Rosepeach)

After doing quite a few searches "windows install", "installing on nexus 5 windows", etc, there aren't any n00b walkthroughs. Guys and Gals, if you want this to be generously supported or looked at seriously, you need to add n00b stuff. Granted, I understand not wanting to field the questions: "why would I want to do this", "what are drivers", "what's fastboot". That however isn't your customer base. Your customer base is people like this person who has legitimate questions/concerns which you do not adequately address. People like me who are past the rooting phase and feel multiple ROMs are heavy and a pain in the butt. I would like to see this work well as I literally have 3 Nexus 5x phones sitting on my desk (demo, store phone, personal). It was amazing to see I could breathe new life into those things as there is so much left in them.

Needless to say, it would be nice if a developer would at least reply and say this is being worked on or only the Linux / Mac master race is supported.

Thanks,
-Cray

So Rose,

I was thinking about it. Here's the start of whatchu need ta know. o)

Lets look at this from a Windows sense. I'm going to take a few liberties and hope that you got some admin pants on ya. Think of the./pm-flash file as a batch file. Inside are the base URL's you need to get this all working. Since you've got a Nexus 5x, I dropped the links below to the 4 download files listed in the walkthrough. :)

The walkthrough:
https://www.plasma-mobile.org/nexus-5/
  • pm-rootfs-20161025-140532.tar.gz (Plasma Mobile in an LXC container)
  • recovery.img (TWRP recovery img)
  • system.img (AOSP system img)
  • https://images.plasma-mobile.org/halium/bullhead/ (Pick your date)
  • boot.img (AOSP boot img)
  • https://images.plasma-mobile.org/halium/bullhead/ (Pick your date)

** If you've got experience rooting and ROM'ing devices you should know how to proceed from here with these. If not, I would do some research on XDA before attempting something like this.

Thanks,
-Cray

I would add a small humble modicum of input into the issue and the very forward thinking response...

I think it wise that someone does a bulletproof "idiot's guide to installation" ...(no insult intended ..the term being a veritable copyright phrase for those who are not specifically educated in a field of study..)
literally done for people from the standpoint of understanding only how to use "the power on" button.
It means that no matter what..such a walk through ...is human-error proof.
thereby reducing the new-user angst, stress and disappointment
as well as subsequent posts filling threads that require needless attention that they may not get, and deter not just the poster but others who are skittish of somewhere making a mistake.
It is in everyone's best interest that a solid , easy, bulletproof walk through is created.
From the very dirt-floor ground-up.

To finish, and just as important..
(if not more so...since it doesn't matter if one is noob or freakin' guru...if one follows instruction that contains an imperative element for proper installation such as TWRP...which literally is the current vehicle for installation of PM ...)

IS HAVING AN UPDATED CURRENT TWRP TO DO THE JOB WITH.

The current TWRP that is in the official instructions ..that is installed ...
IS OUTDATED....
by quite a bit in fact

This may in fact be a factor for many issues (not necessarily the op's ..) that people have had with installation .

Lately ..I have noted after doing some testing ....that the installation and use of the current (at this time) TWRP ends with a problem free install...(so far anyway)

I would suggest that the "powers that be" here update their scripts.
and in the mean ...
perhaps people may consider a workaround of their own choosing ... to install the latest TWRP.
(even post their particular methods ...and their results to compare.)

@Paul: I agree with you wholeheartedly :) However, it doesn't look as if we have wrangled anyone to reply.

Yup.
No word from either those on the team or the community or those signing up ...

I can understand to a degree the issues with the project team...
Little time, scant resources, short on manpower, all the understandable factors.

but the team here badly needs someone who can answer fundamental questions, and they badly need to address some base issues...
Then the community might be in a better position to help pick up the slack and aid in whatever way possible.

The fact that there are plenty of members and non-members who are here...reading posts...yet no one has the time to write ...even a short blurb of their issues, what cause them, how they possibly rectified them, etc... nothing...and no response even... past yours of course....
THAT says volumes...
A community that watches and waits for someone else to post an answer to a solution without offering input also...
ISN'T a community.
I would suggest the "community" members here take some pointers from other actual interactive communities...
In the process of interacting ...and pooling brainpower and experience ..the speed of development can actually increase ...it isn't "theory" folks.

And I know I am not speaking from impatience waiting a week for any feedback at all...
Looking through the threads here...
there are tons of relevant posted questions that have gone unanswered for literally...
not figuratively ...
not exaggeratedly...
Literally....posts and one-post questioning threads ...even...that have gone unanswered for years here.
So there is no exaggeration.

Well,
I will motor on with working and testing on PM as well as Maemo Leste and a couple other OS's...

someone let me know when people here figure out that "dialogue" is an asset.

Is this about installing something on a phone or installing on Windows? Those are quite different issues and if you talk about Windows you should ask your question in the correct forum: viewforum.php?f=59

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I am guessing you haven't read the Original Poster's actual post.
His issue doesn't belong somewhere else.
It belongs exactly where he put it.
Posting his question under a Windows related forum or sub-forum ...as you suggest...will be the opposite of "helping"....
and will distance him from the actual place where he should be ...
and where he "could" get help...
If any were actually coming.

There is nowhere in the Windows sub-forum you suggested ...
where his issue with installation of plasma mobile on his nexus 5x via Windows ...appears as a topic in that sub-forum's other threads...at all..
Let alone issues with plasma mobile and nexus 5x...
He posts there....and he will be redirected ....and told to post right back here.

This is about Installation of plasma mobile on nexus 5x

This is the Device sub-sub-forum (of which he has a Nexus 5x) of the Plasma Mobile sub-forum (which he is trying to install) ...
Whether he is using Linux, Mac or Windows to do his plasma mobile install "from" ..."to" his nexus 5x...
really doesn't matter
He is in the right forum, he is in the right sub-forum, he is in the right sub-sub-forum...
and he is actually asking the right questions for the place he is in..
