My company is interested to build a smartphone with a pre-installed customized Plasma Mobile distribution.
  • How can we adopt custom hardware to Plasma Mobile?
  • Which hardware abstraction layer is used?
We need to ask our potential vendor for existing or non-existing but required implementations for their drivers to make Plasma Mobile working. Our phione will likely use a Snapdragon chipset whith existing hardware adaption for AOSP.

Hey joergw, happy to see this happen!

Plasma Mobile builds for most devices so far are using libhybris and Halium (https://halium.org/) to integrate the hardware. There's other approaches (like PostmarketOS or PureOS), but they're more involved.

I am not aware of Snapdragon support state, you can ask in the Plasma Mobile telegram group, which is more active than the forums: https://t.me/plasmamobile

Hello Apol,

Thanks for your helpful answer. Which documentation, software and/or APIs would we need from the vendor to follow the approach with Halium or Hybris? The manufacturer would forward thise required things to his vendor or vendors to evaluate the hardware adaption feasability and effort.

The good news is, that the manufacturer could completely replace the pre-loaded Android on the chipset with another operation system even for small batches.

I will also foolow your recommendation to ask the Telegram group.
