Refining Composite Movement (Zoom and Pan)

Greetings all. Recently I've been toying around with the Composite filter for scaling and moving as it's the only way to overcome aspect ratio differences for photographs (think doing a "Ken Burns" type of thing). The issue that I have is with the actual movement of the elements themselves. Once I get it rendered it all looks very choppy, very unlike how I see Youtube pages with more professional editing software do it.

Are there ways to make panning and zooming via the Composite tool more "naturalistic" or "smooth"? The keyframes aren't all that versatile as far as I know, so what can I do to make it look better? Just panning one axis is fine, but any zooming or diagonal scanning looks rather rough. Suggestions?

Thanks!
