UPDATE: I just realized there are a number of forums where this post can be paced on kde.org; I will let the moderators put it/copy it, etc so it ends up in the most appropriate place.
Hi Someone had said that I posted this appropriately, however, should have been included in the Brainstorm forum as well; thus here you go: Referencing the older eye candy Window Switching methods [the 3D Cube, Cylinder & Sphere]; i saw one day it was missing after some Kwin/Plasma updates sometime ago. I know many liked it just for the fact it was just plain kick butt cool. Can Windows xx do that? Maybe w/ 3rd party app now a days, however, it was pretty unique to those of us who use Kwin compositing effects. After seeing all the [complaints/gripes/oh why!!] type threads with some saying it was a nightmare to re-implement it into the latest plasma/kwin code I decided to take a look at it and ended up wondering why and said "it's just a rather simple re-coding issue involving some new libraries & framework issues" among other adjustments. I liked that effect and despite having a rather hectic schedule working at the nations premier science [and computing] center FermiLAB outside Chicago, IL I decided to start re-coding it a few weeks ago. Linux is right up our alley at Fermi and I got access to expert programmers on hand to give me a hand if need be with QT 5/6, C++, Python, QML, etc. These guys eat code and even released the distro Scientific Linux for anyone who's into particle physics, etc. Anyway, it should be done within a few weeks at most [if I finish it alone]; sooner otherwise. Refer to the post I made in Kwin forum which is attached below for details. If you have ANY REQUESTS for additional 'fx' please post and I can move them along. viewtopic.php?f=111&t=176389#p458698 My original log-in ID was: n9nu or N9NU - my ham radio callsign and I am trying to re-establish that association with that account. Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
