Hi, I am developing a QML plasmoid and I wonder how I could add translations to the plasmoid file so that the plasmoid gets translated.

I would recommend asking this question on the plasma-devel@kde.org mailing list.

And I would recommend a better solution than one that clutters my inbox with emails that I don't want to read. I thought that this forum was this solution, but clearly I was wrong. Why is there a "KDE Development" section in this forum if the only answer you seem to be able to produce is "I recommend to ask this question in mailinglistXYZ@kde.org"? I guess that the mailing list would also be more useful for the developers if it wouldn't be cluttered with such requests for help.

Subscribing to the mailing list is not required to send email to it. Some developers use the forum, however in this case the Plasma developers definitely prefer their mailing list.
Mention in your mail to the plasma-devel list that you are not subscribed and they should CC you in their replies.

Thanks for your answerr. I solved the problem by myself: you have to create directories contents/locale/$LANG/LC_MESSAGES where $LANG is replaced by your language code, e.g. fr, in those directories you put the .po files of the corresponding language which must be compiled to .mo files. For more details I refer to the Gmail Plasmoid (http://code.google.com/p/gmail-plasmoid/) where I got the ideas and the necessary script or to my plasmoid (http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Ap ... ent=146098).
