I've been following a bug that has apparently been fixed in KDE 4.11.9. I'm currently on KDE 4.13.0.
I'm trying to get my head around how versions work. I'm not sure if I'm correct, but there seem to be multiple concurrent major versions that get upgraded, e.g. 4.11 and 4.13. If something was fixed in KDE 4.11.9, released on 29 April 2014, will this fix land in KDE 4.13.1, to be released 8 May 2014?

The versioning for kde-workspace is a bit confusing at the moment i'm afraid. It is frozen and in LTS mode, so it no longer moves in lock step (version wise) as everything else. Your estimation that 4.11.9 will be released alongside 4.13.1 does appear to be correct.

Not quite. kde-workspace 4.11.9 has already been released together with KDE SC 4.12.5 on April 29th, i.e. two weeks after 4.13.0: http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.12.5.php So you should ask your distribution to provide updated packages. I do agree that the versioning can be a bit confusing... ![]() |

However, I was talking about KDE 4.13.1, which comes out today (8 May). In any case, my question was a more generic one. If fixes land in the 4.11.x versions, then would one expect that they'd also be applied to the 4.13.x versions? |

Again, there is _no_ kde-workspace 4.13. The current version is 4.11.9 which contains the fix and has been released on April 29th. The next version will be 4.11.10, to be released on June 10th. You probably still have 4.11.8, which was the current one when KDE SC 4.13.0 (and the latest Ubuntu) was released. I have no idea if/when Ubuntu releases kde-workspace 4.11.9 packages for you, you would have to ask them. And KDE 4.13.1 is to be released on next Tuesday, not today, btw. http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/ ... e_Schedule |

Okay, the versioning is even more complicated that I thought! I didn't realise that KDE and kde-workspace were independently versioned.
You are right in all cases. I have KDE Platform Version 4.13.0 (is that the same as SC?). I also have kde-workspace 4.11.8-0ubuntu6. So if Kubuntu upgrades to KDE SC 4.13.1, then would this contain the latest kde-workspace 4.11.9? Would kde-workspace 4.11.9 be expected to be in all KDE SC versions from now, i.e. KDE SC 4.11.x, KDE SC 4.13.x SC, etc. |

Yes, you can expect 4.11.9 (or newer versions) to be included in all releases made by of the KDE SC from this point onward.

Yes. As already mentioned, the kde-workspace maintainers decided to not release any 4.12, 4.13, and so on, versions, but stay at 4.11.x.
SC is the "Software Collection", i.e. all the applications included in KDE. Strictly speaking, KDE Platform would be just kdelibs I think.
Well, they wouldn't necessarily have to upgrade kde-workspace as well, but I guess it's safe to assume they will. ![]()
Yes. But there won't be any 4.11.x (and 4.12.x) releases any more (except for kde-workspace itself of course). |

Also, has the "Mark answer as solution" button disappeared?

For some reason, the functionality was not enabled in this particular forum - I have now enabled it. You should be able to mark it as solved now.
