duplicate config files

Tue Jan 26, 2016 11:30 pm
Hi,
I figured out that I have many duplicated config files in $KDEHOME/share/config and $HOME/.config.
The files found in the latter location are newer.

This is the list of duplicated files:
Code: Select all
gtkrc
gwenviewrc
kservicemenurc
startupconfig
kwriterc
print-manager
arkrc
khotkeysrc
ktp-contactlistrc
filelightrc
kfontinstuirc
kscreensaverrc
kickoffrc
kded_device_automounterrc
kcminputrc
systemsettingsrc
kio_desktoprc
startupconfigkeys
ktelepathy.notifyrc
krunnerrc
kiorc
startupconfigfiles
kglobalshortcutsrc
kcmfonts
dolphinrc
kmenueditrc
muonrc
kwinrulesrc
katerc
konsolerc
powermanagementprofilesrc
khelpcenterrc
ktelepathyrc
ksplashrc
ksysguardrc
kwinrc
ktelepathy-avatarsrc
plasmarc
gtkrc-2.0
emailidentities

I'm afraid that duplicate files might bring some inconsistencies.
Should I get rid of $KDEHOME/share/config directory?

No.
~/.kde/share/config/ is used by KDE4, while KF5 uses ~/.config/.
KF5 applications should migrate the config on first start, but otherwise ignore ~/.kde/.

Should I get rid of $KDEHOME/share/config directory?

You definitely should not get rid of the complete folder if you still use KDE4 applications, you will remove their config...
Your file list doesn't look like that though.

Thank you for the explanation, now everything makes sense. I'll not get rid of the old config directory.
